Paul Downs Case Study
Carson Went’z AO1 Foundation
A custom table is a thing you use, a place you gather, and a statement of who you are and what you believe. Need an example? When Carson Wentz asked us for help with his AO1 Foundation headquarters, Design Engineer Don Wuest explored those concepts and created a stunning custom table and desk.
Carson came to us with a vision for his table: rustic with steel details. He also wanted to include his favorite bible verse, Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for human masters”, and his foundation logo in the tabletop too. Additionally, he needed a custom shape that allowed the table to sit tight to one wall as well as accommodate power and data connections. Don showed him how all of that can be done, without compromising anything on the checklist.

The Design Process
As seen in the 3D render images above, you’ll be able to envision your table before manufacturing. This is only one way our process is collaborative. We seek to truly understand the usage of the entire room so that we have a strong foundation of knowledge to work with going into the design process. But it goes beyond that – you also get opportunities to give direct feedback and then see those changes reflected back to you on-screen in real-time. Our responsiveness doesn’t stop with screenshare meetings. Your assigned project manager sends out samples in a timely manner, confirming details and sending progress photos throughout the process.
The Desk
Carson’s office sits adjacent to his conference room. This desk is designed to perform all of the required functions and deliver the same message as the table: this is a place dedicated to belief and action. The desk uses the same woods as the table with the addition of African Mahogany for the pedestals to coordinate with the table for design continuity.
The Build Process
We built this table in our shop in June of 2019. We used rustic oak, ebonized maple, and fumed eucalyptus to complete the table. The logo is done in black costello, while the inlay quote is done in chestnut to contrast with the fumed eucalyptus band. This level of precision is achieved by our talented craftsmen working in tandem with our state of the art laser cutter. The personalized craftsmanship withe the aide of modern equipment is how we’re able to achieve something a robot can’t do.
